The Mayor’s visit to the Charter Hangings

The Mayor, Councillor Stefan Long, has taken the opportunity to visit the Charter Hangings during their celebratory year. He was welcomed by Isabel Clover and Mike Motteram, Chair of the Ipswich Arts Association.

Isabel, lecturer at (then) Suffolk College and known nationally for her ecclesiastical designs and embroidery, was commissioned to create the embroidered hanging for the Millennium. Isabel took great pleasure in talking the Mayor through the eight panels, explaining the significance of the buildings, activities and artifacts what can be seen in each one. The Mayor was equally delighted and fascinated to find out so much about the long history of the town he represents.

The Ipswich Charter Hangings can be viewed at St Peter’s Arts and Heritage Centre (stpetersbythewaterfront.com) until the end of September on Tuesdays, 10am-4pm; Wednesdays, 12pm-2pm & Thursdays, 10am-4pm. And from 1st October on Wednesdays from 12pm-2pm.
