Lecture – Rooted in Place: Benjamin Britten – 12th November 2026
Lecturer: Dr Christopher Hilton, Head of Archive & Library
Explore the rich legacy of Benjamin Britten through the unique lens of his Suffolk roots. Dr Hilton highlights how Britten’s deep connection to his native county is reflected in the collections at The Red House. He discusses iconic works such as Peter Grimes, inspired by the Suffolk coast, to community-focused pieces such as Noye’s Fludde and Welcome Ode -Britten’s final completed composition written for local schoolchildren. The archive offers a compelling glimpse into Britten’s life in Aldeburgh. Personal documents, photographs and memorabilia reveal the town’s influence on his work and the social history that shaped his world.Â
