26 Sept. – 31 Oct. 2026
Event details:
Lines of Dissent is an exhibition in response to being Artist in Residence for 6 months at Walpole Old Chapel, Suffolk.Â
I have responded to the space, its histories, materials, forms and functions. This means spending time getting to know the building, exploring its histories, seeing it at different times of day and year. I have observed and abstracted.
Description:
Large charcoal drawings and a site-specific installation have emerged from that experience. I’m very interested in our built environments-particularly shared spaces. The buildings we make, change and adapt over years – the centuries and are testament to the lives that are and have been connected to them.
The Chapel was created from a domestic farm building into a non-conformist meeting house in 17C. Its beautifully preserved interior offers visitors a rare insight into the history of dissenting worship in Suffolk in the 17th and 18th centuries. It is a Grade II * listed.
Short statement:
I make temporary interventions and objects which I often locate outside a gallery setting. In my practice, I work across drawing, painting, sculpture and installation. I am particularly interested in our environments; how we build, negotiate and use them.
