The quartet is committed to coaching the musicians of the future. For our gala centenary
concert, the Villiers will work with students from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire
and perform the quintessential and glorious Mendelssohn Octet for Strings.
The concert will ‘embrace the new’ with a performance of the eclectic string quartet no. 1
composed by Vivian Fung in 2003. And the Villiers will play Haydn’s ‘Fifths’ quartet
which is special to ICMS as it was performed at the very first concert of the Society
in October 1925, and again in the 50th and 75th anniversary seasons.
